Just three express stops away from Manhattan, lies Forest Hills, a sub-burby Queens neighborhood known for it’s Mcmansions, concert venue and tennis. Little did I know, when I moved a few years back that I’d find one of my favorite pizza joints here: Nick’s Pizza, a local favorite and Forest Hill staple, serving one of the best brick oven pizzas (also the best cannoli’s) in NYC. Tucked under the Long Island Rail Road, Nick’s Pizza is located on Ascan Ave.

Forewarning folks: they do not sell pizza by the slice. Pies only. Come with friends or a huge appetite. Can’t finish everything? Take it home. These bad boys reheat nicely the next day. Now onto the pizza:

Using fresh ingredients, each pie is made to order. You are the true picasso here. Choose from a hefty list of toppings to make the ultimate pizza of your dreams. For a more thin and more classic crust, you can choose between a small (12″) or large (16″) round pizza but if you’re like me and like thick, edgy and crunchy crusts, the grandma (12″) will not disappoint. It’s a bit more expensive and takes longer to prepare but my friends, it’s so worth it. The grandma is one of their newer menu items and it took them awhile to perfect the crust. With that being said, please don’t be one of those people that eat the pizza and leave the crust. “It’s so dry”. Its dry because it’s crunchy. THAT’S WHY IT’S SO GOOD. If you leave it not only will I secretly judge you, I will ninja- eat your crust. I don’t care. It’s the best part dammit. Moving on…

If you’re in the mood for sweets and coffee, they make a mean espresso and a bangin’  cannoli. The cream is light and fairly whippled filled with bits of pistachio. Not traditional but still my favorite kind…(shh…don’t tell my italian peeps).
